November 17, (THEWILL) — Armed bandits, on Monday, attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, killing one staff member and abducting 25 school girls.
The deceased staff member has been identified as Hassan Makuku, while another staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained injuries during the attack.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, confirmed that the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the school around 4:00 a.m., opening fire and creating panic among students and staff.
“The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel. Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted twenty-five students from their hostel to an unknown destination”, CSP Kotarkoshi said.
Kotarkoshi disclosed that police tactical units, working in coordination with military personnel and local vigilantes, have been deployed to comb the area and secure the safe return of the abducted students.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani, had reiterated the Command’s unwavering determination in safeguarding the lives and property of the residents of Kebbi State,” the statement added.
The police urged the public to remain calm and vigilant while continuing to support law enforcement operations aimed at restoring peace and stability.
While the State Government was yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of the report, residents have expressed shock and grief over the incident, with community leaders calling for swift government action.
