LAFIA – Hajiya Silfat Abdullahi Sule the wife of Nasarawa State Governor on Monday inaugurated Sexual Assault Referral Centre to cater for victims of gender-based violence in the State.
Inaugurating the facility Hajiya Silfat Abdullahi Sule, said that the decision to set up the centre was because of a recorded case of 3 months old baby girl who was raped by 24 years old man in the state.
She advised that, whenever there is a case of sexual assault by the opposite sex, women should report it immediately for prompt action.
She also called on women to always reveals the perpetrators of this act for them to face full wrath of the law in the state.
In his remarked during the programme the attorney general and commissioner for justice Abdulkareem Kana, who was represented by the Director of Public Defendant and gender base violence Mrs Justina Allu, in the Ministry of Justice said from January till date over 50 perpetrators of sexual assault had been arrested in the state.
She said the fight against gender-based violence has taken another dimension and added that; gone by days when women would be physically assaulted and the perpetrator would leave freely in society.
According to Justina Allu,” A 4-year-old girl was raped and last week Friday there was a delegation to our office for the perpetrator to be forgiven and AG said is not possible.
” This is happening and we are facing challenges even if we are out to do our work. If you are raped and you didn’t bring it to court to testify what can we do,” she asked.
She advised the general public to reveals the identity of rapist in the society in order to face the full wrath of the law.
Also speaking during the inauguration the commissioner of women affairs and Social development Hajiya Aisha Rufai Ibrahim, said that the centre was a collecting fight against gender base violence in the state.
She explained that the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), would be hope for the hopeless especially for those with cases of all forms of gender base violence in the state.
She commended the effort of governor Abdullahi Sule for and his wife for their tireless efforts and commitment in fighting against gender base violence in the state.
On his welcome remarked Dr. Ikrama Hassan, expressed gratitude to the governor for set up the centre in the state.
He said the would employ qualify personnel to man the facility in order give their best while carried out duties.
