Supplementary election: INEC declares PDP’s candidate, Ugonna Ozuruigbo winner of house of reps poll in Imo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ugonna Ozuruigbo, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of the Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu/Njaba federal constituency seat in Imo state.

Rosetta Okechukwu, the INEC collation officer, who announced the results at the collation centre in Nwangele local government area (LGA) of the state on Friday, April 28, said that Ozuruigbo polled 19,971 votes to emerge winner.

Ikechukwu noted that Chika Madumere, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), got 9,372 votes, while Harrison Nwadike of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 8,991 votes.

The PDP candidate, while speaking after he was announced winner, stated that he would sponsor bills and motions that would benefit his constituents.

Recall that the electoral umpire had declared the February 25 federal constituency poll inconclusive on the premise that the election did not hold in some parts of Njaba LGA.

However, Ozuruigbo asked INEC to declare him the winner because he was leading by a “wide margin.”
