April 15, (THEWILL) – As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) holds bye-elections at Ikono, Etim Ekpo, Ika and Abak local government areas respectively, for Saturday, April 15, the Police Command in Akwa Ibom State has ordered watertight security in the affected areas.
A statement, endorsed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon, and made available to our correspondent, indicates that at least 2,310 officers and men of the command have been deployed, besides sister security agencies.
Macdon stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olateyo Durosinmi, has urged the electorate to go out and exercise their franchise without fear of molestation, as the Command and sister agencies will ensure that elections are conducted in the affected areas in a secure and crisis-free manner
He also stated that the Commissioner has further directed security agencies involved in the exercise to be professional in the course of the exercise.
The CP, however, commends the people of the state for their commitment towards effective security and orderliness.
Recall during the March 18 governorship and State Houses elections, the exercise in some wards were declared inconclusive due to violence that greeted the respective areas.
