A fresh wave of violence hit Benue State on Saturday as suspected armed herdsmen attacked Tse Akor Gbatse village in Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, killing one farmer and injuring several others.
Local sources confirmed that the attackers struck in the afternoon, leaving behind a trail of bloodshed and panic. The deceased was identified as Tachia Akor, a resident farmer in the community. His wife, Mrs. Tsetim Akor, along with other victims, sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at Adi Hospital in nearby Daudu town.
The attack has also led to a mass displacement, with many villagers fleeing for safety, leaving homes and farmland deserted. Community members said the assault came just days after locals had raised alarms over a possible invasion.
According to a resident who spoke under anonymity, the attackers had been spotted camping in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area of neighbouring Nasarawa State, before crossing into Benue to launch the offensive.

“The signs were there, and people were worried. We heard they were gathering at Rukubi, and then they attacked. Tachia Akor was killed, and his wife and others were badly injured,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, stated: “Yes, we were informed. Our men are already on it. Immediately we got the information, personnel were deployed, and they are already investigating the matter. Normalcy has also returned to the area,” he said.
This attack adds to the growing list of violent incidents linked to armed herdsmen in Benue, a state that has remained a flashpoint in Nigeria’s wider struggle over land, security, and herder-farmer tensions.
