During a recent business trip to the US, Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk to discuss potential collaboration on automotive semiconductor chips.

The meeting, held at Samsung Research America Headquarters in Silicon Valley, California, focused on the possibility of Samsung Foundry manufacturing semiconductor chips for Tesla’s self-driving cars.

While Tesla is designing its own processors for FSD cars, it could offer a contract to Samsung Foundry to manufacture them.

Samsung and Tesla already have a working relationship, with Samsung providing components such as batteries, Exynos Auto chips, and camera sensors for Tesla’s electric cars.

Reports suggest that future chips will be made using Samsung Foundry’s 5nm fabrication process.

While Tesla has not yet announced its decision on who will manufacture its chips, the meeting between Musk and Lee shows positive signs for Samsung, despite reports of Tesla considering awarding the contract to Samsung’s primary rival TSMC.
