’There’s no Christian genocide anywhere in Nigeria’ —AGF Fagbemi

Minster of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has insisted that there is no Christian genocide in Nigeria nor any evidence of systematic targeted killing of Christians or any religious group in Nigeria as being suggested in certain quarters.

The AGF who stated this on Saturday at the coronation of the 21st Elerin of Erin-Ile, His Royal Majesty Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye (Adetona I), held in Erin-Ile, Oyun Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State, however, acknowledged that though there is insecurity challenges ravaging the country, the federal government is taking all necessary steps to ensure that killings and banditry are brought to an end.

He noted that despite negative narratives being peddled about in the media, the federal government was winning the war against terrorism and is intensifying efforts to curb killings, banditry and other forms of criminality nationwide.

“There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria. There is no persecution of any religion, sect, or ethnic nationality,” the AGF said while addressing the audience.

He stressed that the pockets of violent attacks occuring across the country including in predominantly Muslim areas such as Zamfara and Sokoto States would soon be a thing of the past.

“We should reject any insinuation that there is a Christian genocide in the country. The government is taking all necessary steps to address violence and restore security,” Fagbemi emphasized.
