Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested one Musa Abubakar, suspected to be the major supplier of arms and ammunition to persons and groups terrorizing several Northern states.
The arrest came barely three months after the secret police began prosecuting nine persons linked to the recent massacres in Yelwata, Benue State, as well as in Plateau State, in which over 300 persons were killed by gunmen.
One of the suspects being prosecuted by the DSS, Timna Manjol (46), has, in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CR/451/2025 before a Federal High Court, Abuja, pleaded guilty to two of four count charge, which included the illegal possession of firearms.
Security sources disclosed that the suspected arms manufacturer, Abubakar, confessed to being behind the manufacture and distribution of high-calibre weapons and ammunition to armed groups involved in recent violent attacks in Plateau and Benue states.
Acting on credible intelligence gathered from extensive surveillance, offered one of the sources, DSS operatives raided Abubakar’s arms manufacturing workshop in Mista Ali, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, where they recovered several arms making equipment.
”Abubakar was apprehended red-handed with various Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) components, arms, fabrication equipment, various chemicals, as well as assorted metal components used in making firearms,” added the source, disclosing that they have been confiscated by the secret police.
Abubakar’s arrest comes a few days after the DSS recaptured Abdulazeez Obadaki, a Kuje Prison escapee who masterminded the attacks on Deeperlife Bible Church, Okene, as well as that on Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, in which several persons were shot dead.
“These recent operational successes recorded by the DSS reflects the commitment of its new leadership to combating terrorism and enhancing national security,” one of the sources declared.
