Three suspects murder an Anambra man for N1,600

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three suspects accused of stabbing to death a man named Chikodili during a dispute over N1,600 in Ogidi, Anambra State’s Idemili North Local Government Area.

Chikodili, who was born in Ebonyi State, worked as a scrap dealer at Tarzan Junction on the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway, Nkpor, in Idemili North LGA, until his death.

It was learned that the Chikodili was with the suspects when an argument erupted over the distribution of the N1,600.

According to an eyewitness, the argument escalated and one of the suspects allegedly stabbed the victim to death.

“The deceased and the suspects earlier had a lengthy argument at their place of work over the sharing formula of N1,600, which prompted the intervention of a master trader before the disagreement was temporarily resolved,” the eyewitness said.

“But the resolution did not go down well with the suspects and some hours later, they invited Chikodili to a drinking joint but he ignored their invitation knowing full well that they still wanted to harm him because the resolution was not in their favour.

They eventually caught the deceased on a bike, and held him tight while one of the suspects used a broken bottle to stab him in the neck and head. He died almost immediately, and the suspects fled”, he added.

According to our source, Chikodili’s body was deposited at the Iyi-Enu Hospital morgue in Ogidi by police, who were said to have finalized plans for an autopsy.

While visiting the deceased’s mother at her home in Nkpor, she cried out for justice.

Sani Ahmed, the Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, confirmed the incident and stated that the assailants were being pursued.

“None of the suspects has been arrested; we have commenced a manhunt for the fleeing assailants. We’ll get them; the deceased’s body has been deposited in the morgue,” Ahmed said.
