Tinubu Commends NDLEA for Busting Nigerian-Mexican Drug Syndicate
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for dismantling a major Nigerian-Mexican drug trafficking syndicate and uncovering a sophisticated multi-million-dollar illicit drug production network in the country.
The President praised the agency and its operatives following Wednesday’s announcement by the NDLEA Chairman, Mohammed Buba Marwa, on the successful operation carried out in collaboration with international partners after weeks of intelligence gathering and strategic planning.
According to the Presidency, the operation led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local drug kingpins, and other collaborators, alongside the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at over $360 million.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the operation as a demonstration of professionalism, courage, and commitment by the anti-narcotics agency.

“This successful operation, which led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local kingpins and other collaborators, as well as the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at over $360 million, demonstrates exceptional professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the devastating effects of narcotics,” the President said.
Tinubu commended the bravery and resilience of NDLEA operatives and urged them to remain steadfast in the fight against drug trafficking and organised crime.
He noted that West Africa had increasingly become a major transit hub for cocaine, synthetic drugs, and unregulated pharmaceuticals destined for Europe and North America.
The President warned that illicit drugs pose serious security and social threats, particularly to young people vulnerable to substance abuse and criminal exploitation.
He called on Nigerians to support the fight against drug trafficking by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities within their communities to security agencies.
“This landmark success is a strong message that our security agencies will not tolerate organised crime and criminality anywhere in the country, and that those who threaten public safety and national security will face the wrath of the law,” Tinubu added.
