President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, following his election as Vice President (Africa) of the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH).
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Dantsoho will serve a two-year term on the global management team of the IAPH, a prominent 70-year-old international organisation that advocates for seaports worldwide. The association is set to celebrate its anniversary on October 7 in Kobe, Japan.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the IAPH membership for the confidence placed in Dr Dantsoho, recalling that in 2017, a predecessor, Hadiza Bala Usman, was also elected to a similar position.
The president highlighted that Dantsoho’s new role is a significant boost to Nigeria’s ambition to leverage the marine and blue economy sectors. He encouraged the NPA Managing Director to persist in his efforts to reposition the Nigerian Ports Authority, emphasising its importance in supporting the country’s broader economic vision to expand its economy to $1 trillion by 2030.
The presidency affirmed its commitment to supporting the NPA under Dantsoho’s leadership as it engages more deeply in the global maritime arena.
