Tinubu swears in Tegbe as Minister of Power, Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

President Bola Tinubu administered the oath of office to Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday.

The brief ceremony was attended by the ministers’ spouses and senior government officials.

The appointments follow the resignations of former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions. President Tinubu nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye, and the Senate cleared both nominees on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Tegbe is described as a fiscal, economic and institutional reform strategist with more than 35 years’ experience in public and private sectors. He holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, an MBA from Switzerland and a Master’s in Public Administration from Birmingham.

Tegbe was a senior partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG in Africa where he led transformational initiatives, including the design and implementation of major presidential reforms and strategies for subnational governments.

He also worked with the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Nigeria Revenue Service, Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN and Odu’a Group.

Enikanolaiye, a native of Igbagun, Kogi State, is a career diplomat who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 1982 and rose to Director before being appointed Permanent Secretary in 2016. He retired from the service on August 4, 2017, after 35 years’ service.

Enikanolaiye earned a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he won the Dean’s Prize, and a Master’s in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos with distinction. His foreign postings included Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi, where he served as Nigeria’s Head of Mission.

He has been honoured with awards such as the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award and the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award. Until his ministerial appointment, he served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff.
