Tinubu Tasks NDC Course 33 Participants on National Productivity, Inclusive Governance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s determination to harness Nigeria’s human, material, and intellectual potential for national development, stating that building a productive and inclusive nation is a shared responsibility.

The President made the remarks at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he received the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, who led participants of Course 33 on a courtesy visit.

Addressing the delegation, President Tinubu commended the participants for their patriotism and commitment throughout their programme, urging them to see themselves as agents of positive national transformation. He assured them that his administration will continue to provide platforms for generating inclusive solutions to emerging socio-economic challenges.

“We are building a political, economic and security future here. We must develop Nigeria,” the President said. “It is our joint responsibility to ensure that this nation is productive, is governed inclusively, and secures the future of generations yet unborn.”

Tinubu emphasised the government’s commitment to empowering defence and military institutions to produce highly trained officers capable of enhancing national power in an evolving security environment.

He noted that developing strategic leaders with strong analytical capacity is key to navigating the country’s dynamic defence landscape.

Responding to the research presentation by Course 33 participants titled “Harnessing Indigenous Manufacturing for Enhanced National Security by 2040,” the President said the recommendations would be studied carefully for possible implementation. He encouraged the participants to continue challenging their intellectual curiosity by examining global best practices and understanding Nigeria’s development trajectory.

President Tinubu also addressed the long-standing request for the completion of the College’s permanent site, advising the management to be patient as the government works toward resolving it.

Earlier, the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Ahmed, informed the President that the NDC—established in 1992—is Nigeria’s apex military educational institution. He disclosed that Course 33 comprised 99 participants: 25 from the Army, 16 from the Navy, 12 from the Air Force, five from the Police, and 18 from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as 23 foreign participants from Africa, Asia, and South America.

Rear Admiral Ahmed explained that the course theme, “Strengthening Institutions for National Security and Development in Nigeria,” aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Leader of the research team, Captain M.A. Ahmed, briefed the President on the findings of the study, which included international benchmarking tours to 23 countries across Africa, Europe, and Asia. He noted that Qatar’s transformation from a mono-economy offered valuable lessons for Nigeria’s industrialisation drive.

The research recommended increased infrastructure investment, product standardisation, and stronger patronage of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to boost indigenous manufacturing, job creation, and national security readiness. It also called for presidential approval for the implementation of Project Native 2040, aimed at positioning Nigeria for industrial and defence sector advancement by the year 2040.

The visit marked the culmination of Course 33’s strategic engagements and highlighted the NDC’s continued role in shaping future leaders for Nigeria’s defence and security architecture.
