April 28, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur’s UEFA Champions League hopes were given a glimmer of hope after a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Ryan Mason’s men got off to a poor start with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford putting United in control. However, a stunning goal from Pedro Porro and a late equaliser from Son Heung-Min ensured a point for Spurs.
Mason’s tenure as interim Spurs’ coach started on a positive note with this hard-fought draw at Old Trafford. While it was not enough to get Spurs back on track, the performance was a vast improvement on their previous outing. United, meanwhile, will be disappointed not to have taken all three points, but their UCL aspirations remain intact.
The draw means Spurs are still six points adrift of fourth-placed United with two games in hand. While it stopped the rot after the heavy loss to Newcastle United, their Champions League aspirations will require maximum points to have any chance of becoming a reality. Meanwhile, United’s position in the top four looks secure.
Spurs will face Liverpool on Sunday, while Manchester United will play against Aston Villa on the same day.
