Tragedy as BBNaija’s Phyna Loses Sister Weeks After Dangote Truck Accident

August 31, (THEWILL) — Former Big Brother Naija winner, Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has been thrown into mourning following the death of her younger sister, Ruth Otabor.

Ruth passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, barely three weeks after she was critically injured in an accident involving a Dangote truck.

The tragic incident occurred on August 13, shortly after Ruth’s graduation from Auchi Polytechnic. She had undergone surgery that led to the amputation of one of her legs.

Phyna, who had been at the forefront of seeking justice and financial support for Ruth’s treatment, recently disclosed that the Dangote Group had pledged to cover the medical expenses.

The reality TV star confirmed her sister’s passing in a statement on Instagram, noting that funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.

Since the announcement, condolences have continued to pour in from fans, colleagues, and well-wishers, who have expressed solidarity with the grieving family.
