April 04, (THEWILL) – Leicester’s season went from bad to worse after a late Bertrand Traore winner condemned them to a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, in a dramatic English Premier League encounter at the King Power Stadium.
In their first match without a manager following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers, the Foxes looked set to earn a point before Traore’s curling effort found the top corner in the 87th minute.
Leicester had started brightly and had the better of the early exchanges, but it was Villa who took the lead after a well-worked counter-attack saw Emiliano Buendia find Ollie Watkins, who coolly slotted past Kasper Schmeichel for his eighth goal in 10 appearances.
Harvey Barnes equalised for the home side with an excellent finish after cutting in from the wing, but the Foxes’ hopes of getting a result were dashed by Traore’s late winner. The defeat leaves Leicester only four points above the relegation zone with six matches left to play, and they will be hoping to appoint a new manager soon to try and turn their season around.
Meanwhile, Villa’s win sees them climb up to ninth in the table and puts them in a good position to push for a top-half finish. Leicester will face Bournemouth on Saturday, while Aston Villa’s next match is against Nottingham Forest on the same day.
