Troops eliminate scores of terrorists, frees 39 hostages in nationwide operations

In a series of decisive operations across Nigeria, the Nigerian Army has reported significant victories against terrorist groups, neutralizing numerous terrorists, apprehending 11 suspects, and rescuing 39 kidnapped victims within a 24-hour period.

A senior official at the Army Headquarters, speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Saturday, September 13, 2025, confirmed that these operations spanned the North East, North Central, and North West regions.

In Borno, troops under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) eliminated one terrorist and seized various arms and ammunition.

“Our forces successfully thwarted attempted attacks in Dikwa and Gubio Local Government Areas,” the official stated, adding that troops also neutralized an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Baga–Cross Kauwa road in Kukawa LGA.

In Kaduna and Katsina, Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops dismantled terrorist hideouts, recovered weapons, and rescued a soldier abducted in Zamfara in July.

Meanwhile, in Kogi, the 12 Brigade, alongside hybrid forces and vigilantes, liberated 17 kidnap victims from a hideout in Adavi LGA.

“The rescued victims were promptly evacuated and provided medical care,” the source noted.

In Plateau and Benue, Operations Enduring Peace and Whirl Stroke led to the arrest of six suspects involved in kidnapping, cattle rustling, and militia activities. Troops also repelled an attack on Nteng village in Quan-Pan LGA, Plateau, forcing insurgents to retreat with losses.

In Benue, two hostages, including one held since July, were freed after their captors fled upon spotting advancing troops.

In Niger and Kogi, three suspected kidnappers were apprehended, with troops recovering cash, weapons, and ammunition.

Additionally, in the South-South region, the Joint Task Force (OPDS) destroyed over 5,000 liters of suspected stolen crude oil and illegally refined AGO during anti-bunkering operations in Bayelsa and Rivers States.

“The relentless pace of these operations demonstrates the Armed Forces’ commitment to curbing criminal activities nationwide,” the official emphasized.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has urged troops to maintain their offensive against terrorists and encouraged citizens to provide timely intelligence to support ongoing efforts. (NAN)
