Troops of Operation Fasin Yamma (OPFY) have rescued nine kidnapped victims in Sokoto State and neutralized several terrorists in a decisive ambush in Zamfara.
The Army disclosed that the breakthrough followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on the night of September 31, 2025, along a known crossing route on the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road linking Zamfara and Sokoto States.
Acting on credible intelligence about terrorist movements, troops laid an ambush in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara. According to the Army, when the terrorists sighted the soldiers, they attempted to use their abducted captives as human shields.
However, the troops responded swiftly, engaging the criminals and overpowering them. “The decisive encounter led to the rescue of nine victims, comprising three adult women and six children,” the Army confirmed.
The rescued hostages were identified as residents of Garin Bature village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. They were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Shinkafi for medical attention.

The Army added that the freed victims have been handed over to Shinkafi LGA officials, who assured that arrangements are being made for their safe reunion with their families.
Reaffirming its commitment, the military vowed to sustain “aggressive operations across the North West and parts of the North Central until terrorism and banditry are eliminated.” The statement also urged residents to continue sharing “timely and credible information to support the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the theatre.”
