The Senator representing Abia North, Orji Kalu has accused some political actors of spreading misinformation to weaken his popularity.
He stated this while responding to threats by a youth group in Abia State that declared him unwelcome in Ohafia.
Speaking in a statement released on Thursday by his Media and Public Affairs Team, the former Abia State governor described the allegation against him as misleading, adding that it does not reflect the broader mood of the Abia North Senatorial District.
Kalu boasted that he continues to enjoy widespread support across all five local government areas in the senatorial zone, including Ohafia.
“From Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, to Umunneochi local government areas, there is overwhelming confidence in his leadership earned through years of visible service, principled representation, and courageous advocacy,” the statement said.
It further claimed that Kalu has consistently defended the Igbo cause at the national level while delivering development initiatives and constituency engagement that have strengthened his political base.
“Truth will always outlive propaganda, and leadership rooted in service will always command enduring support across Abia North,” the statement added.
The senator’s response followed renewed agitation by members of the Ohafia Youth Association, who on Wednesday reiterated their earlier declaration that Kalu remains persona non grata in the community over events linked to the 2023 general election.
Led by its chairman, Obasi Kalu Obasi, and secretary, Onyekachi Uduma, the youth group accused the senator of allegedly branding Ohafia an Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) stronghold during the last election, a label they said led to heavy security presence, voter intimidation, and mass disenfranchisement.
