Uganda’s Lorenzen Vows To Challenge Super Eagles Of Nigeria At AFCON 2025

Uganda’s forward, Melvyn Lorenzen, has sent a stern warning to the Super Eagles of Nigeria and fellow Group C opponents, promising that the Cranes will make life difficult at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Under coach Paul Put, Uganda is drawn alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Nigeria in a group where the Super Eagles and Carthage Eagles are widely tipped to advance. Despite being seen as underdogs, Lorenzen insists Uganda will not be easy prey against the two giants in the group.

“Even against the big nations, it’s always a good result. We’ve never gone under, they’ve always shown themselves in a good light. So, I think any team that comes won’t be comfortable playing us. It’s time to prove that again,” Lorenzen told the Uganda Football Association official website.

The Cranes will kick off their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tunisia next Tuesday, before taking on Tanzania and end the group stage campaign against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on December 31 in Fez.

Having missed the last two AFCON tournaments in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, Uganda will be appearing at the finals for the eighth time. Their history with Nigeria is notable, particularly the 1978 semi-finals in Ghana when Philip Omondi’s brace knocked the Super Eagles out of the competition.
