US state department proposes 12-month visa bond pilot program

The US state department has proposed a 12-month visa bond pilot program, which is set to start on August 20, 2025.

This development is aimed at reducing visa overstays by imposing financial penalties on travelers who fail to comply with visa terms.

The bond amounts will vary at $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000, determined by consular officials based on individual circumstances.

Countries with high visa overstay rates, inadequate screening and vetting systems, or those offering citizenship by investment without residency requirements may be affected

This development follows a recent warning from the US Embassy to immigrant students, citing circumstances that could result in their visas being revoked.
