The Ughelli South Political Colonels (USPC) have lauded the development strides of the Chairman of the Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Lucky Iroroefe Avweromre, since his assumption of office.

USPC made this known during a courtesy visit to the Chairman’s official residence at the Ughelli South Local Government Council Secretariat in Otu-Jeremi on Sunday, March 31, 2025.

Speaking on behalf of the USPC, Olorogun John Akaruayen Ewenede, Chairman of the Ughelli South Political Colonels, alongside Publicity Secretary Dcn. Matthew Kwode, stated that the objective of the visit was to introduce the group’s executives to him (Hon. Dr. Lucky Avweromre) as the foremost citizen of the local government area.

According to the duo, the Ughelli South Political Colonels (USPC) is a disciplined political pressure group within the APC, committed to advancing the party’s progressive ideals in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

In their words, “The group seeks to strengthen party cohesion, empower grassroots members, and promote issue-based political engagement across the local government area.”

“Through mobilizing grassroots participation, strengthening internal party democracy, and advocating for citizens’ involvement in the ongoing INEC registration exercises, we aim to promote the progressive ideals of the APC.

“Fostering policy-driven leadership and building a disciplined, inclusive, and responsive political movement dedicated to the growth of the party and the empowerment of the community are also key objectives.

“Becoming the leading grassroots political force within the APC in Delta State, renowned for principled leadership, inclusive governance, grassroots mobilization, and the promotion of sustainable development in Ughelli South and beyond, is our vision.”

They emphasized that the USPC is focused on mobilizing grassroots participation through political education and community engagement, advocating for governance that addresses real issues and delivers measurable results.

“The USPC is rooted in principles of discipline, loyalty to party ideals, inclusive participation across age, gender, and class, as well as transparency, accountability, and issue-based politics.

“Our membership is open to all registered APC members in Ughelli South LGA who align with the group’s vision and support the candidacy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, Executive Governor of Delta State, for the forthcoming 2027 general elections.”

The group lauded the council chairman for the renovation of the official residence and noted that his decision to reside there demonstrates that he is a grassroots-oriented politician with a difference.

They also praised him for the numerous projects he has undertaken across the nooks and crannies of the local government area.

The council chairman, Hon. Dr. Lucky Iroroefe Avweromre for his part, expressed happiness and gratitude that his constituents (the USPC) came to visit him. “From your speeches, I can see that the USPC is a formidable group.

“And the main agenda is to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for a second term in 2027. I want to assure you that this is exactly what I stand for. As the Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, I have the core mandate to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for a second term in 2027.

“So, if I have a formidable group here today—when I say formidable, I am not mincing words. In the political history of Ughelli South Local Government Area, there has never been a time when a group of this nature came into existence.

“Before today, it’s as if I have been part of this group because the Chairman, Chief John Ewenede, is the Secretary to the Local Government Council, and the Deputy Chairman is the Supervisor for Works and Transport. It’s a group that is part of me.

“We will work closely with you to ensure that the core reasons for which the group was formed are achieved, and by the grace of God, we will achieve success and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

“I want to use this opportunity to urge the USPC to encourage and mobilize our people who are over 18 years old and have yet to register with INEC to come to the local government headquarters to get themselves registered for the 2027 elections.”

The executives of the Ughelli South Political Colonels introduced during the visit included Chief John Ewenede (Chairman), Sir Sunday Mrakpor (Deputy Chairman), Hon.
