Naija News reports that the players were received at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Owerri, where the governor commended their contributions to Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

The Imo-born players hosted include Chiamaka Nnadozie , Jennifer Echegini, Osinachi Ohale, Oluchi Oluehi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Anna Imo.

The seventh player, Michelle Alozie, was absent as she had reportedly returned to her base in the United States.

In a statement shared on his official 𝕏 handle, Uzodinma described the Falcons’ triumph as a testament to discipline and commitment, which he said has reignited national pride.

“The steeze and composure displayed by the Super Falcons were unmatched. Even in moments when the nation was filled with apprehension, they stood firm, never wavering in faith or focus. Their resilience and unity led to a well-deserved victory, bringing home the coveted trophy and filling every Nigerian heart with pride.

“Hosting the team at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge was a moment of profound joy. It was particularly moving to witness the outstanding contributions of Imo State daughters, whose talent and dedication were on full display. Their performance was a true testament to the spirit and potential of our people.

“This victory is not just a win on the pitch, it is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when commitment, discipline, and national pride come together,” the Imo State Governor wrote.

Naija News reports that the Super Falcons defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final to clinch their 10th WAFCON title, further cementing Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football on the continent.

Upon their return to Nigeria, the team was celebrated nationwide and was hosted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where they were honoured for their exceptional performances.

Several players received individual awards for their displays throughout the tournament, while the victory parade attracted massive fan support.

Uzodinma assured the players of continued support from the state government, adding that their achievement serves as inspiration to aspiring athletes in Imo and across Nigeria.
