Why CAC Will Deploy AI to clear Application Backlog

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has said it will deploy an Artificial Intelligence agent to clear a backlog of about 7,000 company registration applications and reduce delays in service delivery.

Registrar-General of CAC, Hussaini Magaji, announced the move at a stakeholders’ forum in Kano on Monday.

In a statement posted on the CAC social media handle on Tuesday, Magaji described the AI upgrade as a “complete overhaul” of the commission’s existing Company Registration Portal.

He said the system was launched in June and is designed to speed up compliance, registry and customer-service tasks with greater accuracy.

The statement read, “In a bid to tackle the backlog of 7,000 registration applications, the CAC Boss said an AI agent was in the pipeline to handle requests across compliance, registry, and customer service with speed and accuracy.

Magaji outlined several features of the new portal, including instant name approvals and automatic suggestions for alternative names when preferred options are unavailable.

According to the Registrar, name reservation under the new system is now as simple as opening an email account, noting that the use of AI enables seamless suggestions and approvals in real-time.

He blamed the teething problems largely on the unexpectedly high volume of applications the new platform has had to process.

To cope with daily inquiries, the CAC is also programming the AI to triage correspondence.

“In a bid to address the barrage of calls and no fewer than 3,000 emails per day, the Registrar-General said the Commission opted for an AI solution that has the capacity to read 3000 emails within a minute, comprehend the messages, dictate duplicate requests as well as reroute requests to the appropriate units /departments for instant response,” the statement added.

CAC had earlier in June this year, launched the AI-driven registration portal aimed at transforming Nigeria’s business environment by simplifying company registration processes and accelerating approvals. https://punchng.com/cac-defends-new-ai-portal-amidst-complaints/

The CAC said the AI initiative aims to modernise company registration and accelerate approvals, part of broader efforts to make it easier to do business in Nigeria.
