Actor Kunle Afod has explained why he decided to start making his charitable efforts for elderly Nollywood stars public after keeping them private for years.
The 51-year-old filmmaker revealed that he had long been helping aging colleagues quietly, providing support to those who were struggling outside the movie scene.
He explained that reaching out to veterans had been part of his personal efforts for a long time before he chose to make it visible to the public.
Afod said the change happened after he turned 50, when he noticed many social media comments accusing actors of only spending money on celebrations while ignoring the pioneers who laid the foundation of the industry.
According to him, this pushed him to start sharing his outreach publicly so that people would see the care given to the veterans.
He added that making his work open has since brought more encouragement and attention to elderly actors who are often forgotten.
Afod said that his main focus now is on these veterans, ensuring they receive both financial and emotional support.
He said: “When I decided to go public was during my 50th birthday, my comment section read: ‘They only know how to do party. They do not take care of the old actors who paved way in the industry’. I said we have been doing it but people have not been seeing in the public space,” he said.
