Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is set to launch a series of transformative infrastructure projects, including the construction of 12 new roads and solar lighting initiatives, starting Thursday, September 18, 2025.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, the month-long inauguration exercise, running until October 16, will cover two completed road projects and 14 new developments across the FCT.
Wike’s aggressive infrastructure drive, which has already reshaped parts of the FCT with projects in satellite towns and area councils over recent months, continues to prioritize connectivity and urban development.
“The minister’s vision is to make Abuja a model capital, with world-class infrastructure that enhances residents’ quality of life,” Olayinka said.
Key among the upcoming projects is the deployment of integrated hybrid solar lighting under the Light Up Abuja Programme, illuminating major areas such as Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business District, and the Airport Expressway, as well as neighborhoods like Katampe, Garki I and II, Mabushi, Gudu, and Jabi.
The road projects include the development of an arterial road in Wuye District, access roads to the Mabushi Bus Terminal, and infrastructure linking the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates project in Karsana.
Additionally, Wike will inaugurate an access road bypassing the Airport Second Runway from Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki settlement, featuring a four-span bridge, and a transit way connecting the Central Area to Wuse District with two bridges.
“These projects are designed to ease traffic, boost connectivity, and support economic growth,” Olayinka noted.
Other initiatives include erosion control in Kaura District with three-span bridges, the rehabilitation of the 15km old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction, and the provision of engineering infrastructure for layouts in Guzape and Asokoro.
Wike will also commission residences for senior judicial officers, including the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the Chief Judge of the FCT, and the President of the Industrial Court.
Building on his reputation for delivering high-impact projects, Wike’s recent efforts in the FCT have included road upgrades and public facilities in satellite towns, earning praise for transforming underserved areas.
“The minister’s infrastructure push is not just about roads and lights—it’s about building a capital city that reflects Nigeria’s aspirations,” Olayinka added.
These latest projects underscore Wike’s commitment to modernizing Abuja and enhancing its functionality as Nigeria’s administrative hub.
