The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the peaceful conduct of the FCT elections proves residents’ strong commitment to democracy and good governance.
Speaking in a special broadcast on Sunday, Wike stated that the outcome of the polls exposed the insincerity of politicians who stage-manage public gestures—such as buying corn and groundnuts from roadside vendors—to mislead Nigerians during campaigns. According to him, the election showed that citizens can no longer be swayed by what he described as “emergency democrats” who constantly criticize the government without acknowledging progress.
Wike praised Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the election reflected the President’s vision and leadership. He said the Renewed Hope Agenda has restored optimism and confidence among FCT residents and commended Tinubu for supporting amendments to the Electoral Act to enhance credible elections.
He also congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting what he described as a free, fair, and credible poll, while applauding security agencies for ensuring a peaceful process.
The minister urged elected officials to serve with humility and dedication, and encouraged FCT residents—especially those in satellite towns—to continue supporting the government’s efforts to deliver democratic dividends and further development across the territory.
