A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken over the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
This followed the reopening of the party secretariat by the police.
The PDP has been embroiled in a leadership crisis since last year with the Wike group and another faction led by the former Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki, fighting for the control of the party.
The Wike faction held its national convention on March 31:and elected Abdulrahaman Mohammed as national chairman.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had since accorded recognition to the new National Working Committee (NWC) produced at the convention.
