Yobe Govt Restructures Agro-Food Industries, Signs PPP

August 28, (THEWILL) — The Yobe State Government has announced a major restructuring of its agro-food industrial enterprises as part of efforts to advance Governor Mai Mala Buni’s agricultural transformation agenda.

Governor Buni disclosed this on Thursday in Damaturu while unveiling a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with private investors to reposition the state’s agricultural sector.

He explained that the move seeks to consolidate and harmonise six critical agro-industrial assets under a single holding company, the Nigerian Food Corporation (NFC).

The assets include the Nigerian Food Company Limited, Nguru Oil Mills Limited, Yobe Flour & Feeds Mills Company Limited, Wheat Flour Global Mills Company Limited, Yobe State Fertilizer Blending Co. Gujba Ltd, and the Damaturu Modern Abattoir.

According to the governor, the unified framework will drive growth, innovation, and food security in Yobe and beyond by leveraging private-sector expertise and strategic partnerships.

To lead the transition, the government also constituted a new board of directors, bringing together seasoned professionals from both the public and private sectors.

The board is chaired by Sa’id Alkali Kori, while Babagana Mohammed Adam was appointed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Others include Samaila Hassan Yusuf, who will serve as Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer, Business Development and Operations; Hussaini Tela Zimbo, Executive Director/Chief Finance Officer in charge of Finance and Strategy; and Liman Ibrahim Ali, Non-Executive Director and agribusiness expert.

The Director-General of the Yobe State Agency for Public-Private Partnership & Investment Promotion (YAPPPIP), the Managing Director of Yobe Investment Company, and Mohammed Babazau, Esq., also join the board as non-executive directors, with Babazau serving as Legal Adviser.

The Director-General of YAPPPIP, who signed the MoU on behalf of the government, said the restructuring is fully aligned with Buni’s food security and agricultural transformation agenda. He added that the PPP arrangement involves significant private investment, underscoring the enabling business environment created by the state.
