A socio-cultural group in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, Oijefon Youth Council, has condemned the alleged error in a recruitment advertisment published by the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji in a national daily on Wednesday.
The Youth Council noted that the management committed a misleading error in the address of the institution as it wrote “Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo, Ondo State” instead of Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State.
In a statement signed by the President, Oijefon Youth Council, Engr. Dokun Adeyonu, the Council described the error in the address of the institution as misleading and grave.
The group also noted that the misrepresentation did not only undermined the identity of Ile-Oluji, the host community of the institution, but also distorts geographical and cultural facts.
It declared that Ile-Oluji is a kingdom in Ondo State and not an appendage of any other town.
Consequently, the Oijefon Youth Council demanded a retraction and correction of the error, handing down a 48-hour ultimatum to management of the polytechnic to take action.
The group, therefore, appealed to Indigenes of Ile-Oluji to remain calm, promising to employ all lawful means to ensure the error is corrected.
The statement reads in parts: “The attention of the Oijefon Youth Council has been drawn to a recruitment advertisement published in a National Newspaper of Wednesday, September 3, 2025 (page 24), by the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, through the office of the Registrar.
“The publication carried a misleading heading which read: “Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo, Ondo State” instead of the rightful “Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, Ondo State.”
“We want to believe this was not intentional. However, we strongly condemn this act of negligence and grave error, particularly from a citadel of learning that ought to exercise utmost caution in what it releases to the public. Such a misrepresentation not only undermines the identity of Ile-Oluji but also distorts geographical and cultural facts. Ile-Oluji is a kingdom in Ondo State and never a subject of any other town.
“We therefore demand, within 48 hours, a prompt retraction of this offensive publication and an unreserved public apology from the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji, to the people of Ile-Oluji Kingdom.
“This is necessary to set the record straight and restore confidence in the integrity of the institution.
“Meanwhile, we appeal to all sons, daughters, and residents of Ile-Oluji to remain calm and not yield to provocation. As a responsible youth body, we shall not hesitate to employ all lawful means to ensure that our rightful demand is met.”
However, when contacted, the spokesman to the polytechnic, Mr. Yemi Adeniyi said the institution is already addressing the issue.
Ile-Oluji is the headquarters of Ile-Oluji/Oke Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
