Nollywood actor and politician Yul Edochie has sent out a passionate appeal to Ndigbo, urging them to return to their roots and reinvest in their homeland amidst recent social unrest in Ghana.
His message follows the emergence of protests in Ghana where some aggrieved citizens allegedly demanded that Nigerians leave the country due to rising tensions and criminal accusations involving Nigerian nationals. The situation has triggered concern among many Nigerians living abroad, especially the Igbo community.
Addressing the issue via his official Facebook page, Yul Edochie called on his fellow Igbos not to respond with violence or hostility. Rather, he interpreted the rejection being faced abroad as a spiritual sign — a calling from their ancestors to return and contribute to the growth and development of their homeland in southeastern Nigeria.
In his words: “Ndi Igbo come back home and invest in Igbo land. If you’re facing rejection on foreign soil, it’s not a sign to fight anybody, it’s a sign to return home. We have wandered for too long. Home is calling. Our ancestors and spirits in Igbo Land are calling us to return home and develop home. A new dawn has come in Igbo land. It’s time to return home. Ana amalu mma si na uno wee puo ilo.”
The post has stirred conversations among the Igbo community both in Nigeria and in the diaspora, with many agreeing that homegrown development could be the key to a stronger, more independent southeastern region.
