April 07, (THEWILL) – Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, have reportedly abducted at least 80 children, during a fresh operation in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Friday.
The incident was confirmed to BBC Hausa by the parents of the victims.
One of the parents said the victims, aged between 12 and 17, were in the bush fetching firewood at about 8:00 a.m, when the abductors rounded them up and marched them away into the forest.
“It affected all members of our community. It’s either your son or daughter who was among the captives, your nephew or niece. They went away with my son and a motorbike”, a parent told BBC Hausa.
Also, another woman in Wanzamai village told newsmen that her 15-year-old daughter was among those kidnapped.
“We are worried because we don’t know the condition of our children in captivity”, she said.
As of the time the BBC reported the kidnapping, the abductors had yet to contact the parents to make any demand.
Authorities in the Zamfara, including the State Police Command, have not issued any statement on the incident
