Zamfara by-election: INEC awards Certificate of Return to APC’s Kamilu Sa’id

In a ceremony held on Monday in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially presented the Certificate of Return to Kamilu Sa’idu, the newly elected lawmaker for Kaura Namoda South State Constituency, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the certificate presentation followed a successful rerun election conducted on Thursday across five polling units in two registration areas.

The rerun was prompted after INEC declared the initial August 16 by-election, covering 109 polling units in six registration areas of Kaura Namoda Local Government, inconclusive due to reported irregularities.

During the presentation, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Dr. Mahammud Isah praised the election process, stating, “The exercise was free, fair, and credible.”

He commended stakeholders for their role in upholding democratic principles and urged Sa’idu to “remain focused in bringing meaningful development to his constituency and the state.”

The State Chairman of APC, Alhaji Danfulani Maikatako, expressed his satisfaction with INEC and security operatives, noting, “The party’s victory signifies its acceptance in Zamfara.”

He added confidently, “In 2027, the party will reclaim its stolen mandate,” while alleging that internal misunderstandings among APC leaders in 2023 had inadvertently led to PDP’s success in the state.

Sa’idu, the lawmaker-elect, expressed gratitude to the APC leadership and supporters, promising, “I will use my experience to bring meaningful development to the constituency and the state at large.”
