May 15, (THEWILL) – Barcelona’s dominance shone brightly as they sealed the La Liga title in spectacular fashion, obliterating relegation-threatened rivals Espanyol with a resounding 4-2 victory on Sunday.

Xavi Hernandez’s men entered the RCDE Stadium aware that a triumph in the derby would secure their 27th La Liga crown. The Blaugrana delivered a magnificent performance, with Robert Lewandowski netting twice and Alejandro Balde also finding the back of the net in a commanding first-half display.

Shortly after kick-off, Barcelona wasted no time in taking the lead. Balde showcased his blistering pace, effortlessly eluding Oscar Gil before delivering a pinpoint cross to Lewandowski, who tapped the ball in from close range. The visitors swiftly doubled their advantage as Balde transitioned from provider to finisher, helped by Pedri’s precise cross to slot home at the far post.

With the title tantalisingly close, Barcelona effectively sealed the deal before half-time when Lewandowski converted Raphinha’s low cross. There was still more to come in the second half that saw Barca continue their ruthless onslaught. Frenkie de Jong exhibited his vision by lofting an exquisite ball over the Espanyol defence, finding Jules Kounde, who cleverly nodded the ball past Fernando Pacheco.

Although Espanyol mounted a late resurgence with Javier Puado’s audacious chip in the 73rd minute and Joselu’s composed finish in stoppage time, it proved to be nothing more than consolation goals. Barcelona clinched their first league title since the 2018/2019 campaign, relishing the added satisfaction of exacerbating their arch-rivals’ relegation concerns.

The champions now set their sights on a home clash against Real Sociedad, while Espanyol will resume their battle against Rayo Vallecano in their quest to avoid the drop.
