June 7 (THEWILL) — Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has declared that Nigeria does not belong to kidnappers and other criminal elements threatening the nation’s peace and security, insisting that no individual or group should be allowed to hold the country hostage for personal or political interests.
The governor made the declaration on Sunday during a worship service at LoveWorld City, popularly known as Christ Embassy, in Benin City, where he called for sustained prayers against kidnapping, cultism, and other security challenges confronting the country.
Addressing the congregation, Okpebholo urged Nigerians and Christians across the nation to continually seek God’s intervention in overcoming insecurity and restoring peace, prosperity, and stability.
According to him, tackling the country’s current security and economic challenges requires collective efforts and spiritual support.
“This country does not belong to kidnappers. No individual or group should hold the nation captive for personal or political interests,” the governor said.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria would eventually overcome its challenges through the prayers of citizens and collective commitment toward national development.
“As elections draw closer, kidnapping has become a growing concern. However, with the prayers of God’s people and collective efforts, we believe these challenges will be overcome,” he added.
The governor also called for prayers for peace, prosperity, good governance, and economic recovery across Nigeria, noting that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of security and stability.
Okpebholo further appealed to the congregation to pray for President Bola Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom, guidance, and strength to lead the nation and effectively manage the country’s economy.
He noted that prayers offered for Nigeria would naturally extend to the safety, peace, and well-being of Edo State and other parts of the country.
During the service, the officiating pastor, Moses Olayemi, led special prayers for Nigeria, its leaders, local government areas, communities, and the economy.
The prayers focused on divine peace, protection, economic restoration, and spiritual awakening across Edo State and the country.
Pastor Olayemi also commended Governor Okpebholo for the ongoing developmental projects in Edo State, particularly improvements in road infrastructure.
“We appreciate the transformation taking place across the state. The roads and other projects are improving daily, and we commend your efforts. May God grant you the resources and strength to complete what you have started,” Olayemi said.
