Police nab two in Plateau, recover made arms, ammunition

Two suspects have been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command for illegal possession of firearms, with three locally made weapons and ammunition recovered in separate operations across the state.

In a press release issued to Journalists on Thursday in Jos, Alfred Alabo, a Deputy Supredendant of Police (DSP) and the Police Public Relations Officer, Plateau state command said the first arrest occurred on August 4 during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by officers from the Kaduna-Vom Division.

“The team intercepted a 24-years old suspect, Mark Ibrahim Dalyop of Sabon Layi Kuru, who was found in possession of two locally made rifles while riding a motorcycle from Vom to Kuru around 9:00 p.m.

“In a related development, another suspect, Moses Aliyu, aged 26 and a resident of Fwave Chiki Rayfield, Jos, was arrested by detectives from the Nassarawa Gwong Division on August 11. The arrest followed credible intelligence received by the police from a reliable source.

“Aliyu was apprehended in an uncompleted building located in Kwanga, where a locally fabricated revolver pistol and one live 9mm ammunition were recovered from him during a search.

“The two suspects are currently undergoing further investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). They will be charged to court as soon as the investigations are concluded”; the statement revealed.

The spokesperson added that Emmanuel Adesina, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, while commending the officers involved reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to ensure a safer and more peaceful Plateau.

He warned criminal elements to desist from their activities or leave the state, as the Command remains fully committed to enforcing the law and maintaining order.
