Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Netherlands attacking midfielder Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth over £51million.

The 22-year-old, who had attracted interest from several top European clubs this summer, said he had “been dreaming of this for a long time” after completing his medical and finalising the move to Thomas Frank’s side.

Simons scored 22 goals and provided 24 assists in 78 appearances for Leipzig, initially joining on loan from Paris St-Germain in 2023 before making the move permanent in January this year. On the international stage, he has netted five goals in 28 appearances for the Netherlands since making his debut at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going,” Simons said after signing. “It’s a great club and when I met the head coach, I knew straight away this was the right place for me.”

Spurs manager Thomas Frank hailed the new arrival as a “great addition” who brings “good experience despite his young age.”

Simons follows Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus as Tottenham’s latest summer signings. Chelsea also held talks with Leipzig over a potential deal, but have turned their focus to completing a £40m move for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.
