The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has formally disowned a violent political gathering that erupted on Saturday at one of its facilities in Kaduna, insisting it neither approved nor sanctioned the event.
Addressing journalists at a press conference on Sunday, the National President of NUT, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, made it clear that the union had no role in the incident.
According to him, “NUT completely dissociates itself from what happened on Saturday in our facility. If we had known earlier that such a political activity was planned, approval would not have been granted.”
Amba explained that the property where the incident occurred was developed through the End Well initiative — a contributory welfare scheme established in 1999 by teachers in Kaduna State to support members during retirement or in times of difficulty.
He noted that the initiative not only helped many teachers build homes and improve their welfare but also gave rise to the establishment of the NUT Hotel in Kaduna.

The union leader, however, expressed regret that such a facility — built from the contributions and sacrifices of teachers — had been misused for partisan purposes.
“The NUT Hotel belongs to teachers in the state. Had members been aware of the nature of the gathering, access would not have been granted,” he stressed.
Amba, who also doubles as Deputy National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), recalled that the union had experienced disagreements with past state administrations over workers’ welfare, but emphasized that teachers remain committed to their profession and will not allow their facilities to become tools for political conflict.
The union further appealed to politicians and their supporters to show respect for public institutions and to avoid using them in ways that could damage their reputation or disrupt their operations.
