Nicolas Jackson stays in Germany, hopes to revive Bayern move

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is refusing to give up on a move to Bayern Munich after his loan switch collapsed at the last minute due to Chelsea’s injury crisis.

The 24-year-old flew to Munich on Saturday to finalise a season-long loan with the Bundesliga champions, only for Chelsea to block the deal after striker Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury and Cole Palmer was sidelined with a groin problem. With Christopher Nkunku also departing for AC Milan last week, Blues boss Enzo Maresca insisted he could not afford to lose another forward.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the collapse, saying:

“Chelsea informed us that they would like the player back after we agreed yesterday. The situation now is that the lad is here in Munich, but we are sending him back.”

But Jackson has opted to remain in Germany while his representatives attempt to revive the deal before Monday’s transfer deadline. His agent, former Senegal striker Diomansy Kamara, made it clear they are not abandoning the move.

“We’re not going back. The plane doesn’t go backwards: Munich. We’re still hoping it will work. If we didn’t have hope, we wouldn’t still be here,” Kamara told Bild.

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a move for Sporting Lisbon striker Conrad Harder, which could open the door for Jackson to complete his switch. The original agreement included a £13 million loan fee with an option to buy for £52 million.

Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in 2023, has endured a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge and was told he was not in Maresca’s plans this season. He has yet to make an appearance in the current campaign.
