Two residents, including a traditional leader, have been killed following an attack by suspected bandits in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The victims were identified as Murtala Sa’adu, 47, the Village Head of Sayinna, and another resident, Ibrahim Mai-Kudi. Both men reportedly died on the spot.
The incident occurred around 1:30am on Thursday when armed men, believed to be members of the Lakurawa gang, stormed Sayinna, a remote village in the council area.
It was gathered that the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, shot indiscriminately as they advanced into the community.
Security expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident, noting that the attackers fled into nearby bushes afterward.
He added that troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA were promptly mobilised to the scene. The victims were evacuated to a hospital, while patrols have been intensified in the area to prevent further attacks.
