KENYA: “The Kind of Brains He Wants, We Don’t Have”: Gachagua Fires Back at Ruto

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a blistering attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of lies, corruption, and orchestrating the abduction and killing of Gen Z protesters.

Speaking during a church service in Mutituni, Machakos County, Gachagua claimed that Ruto’s leadership lacked integrity and that his political maneuvers were deeply unethical.

“The Brains He Wants, We Don’t Have”
Gachagua mocked Ruto’s remarks that his former allies lacked intelligence, saying he could never engage in lies or deceit.

“Sasa nimeskia huyu jamaa akisema sisi hatuna akili. It’s true, ile akili anatafuta sisi hatuna. That’s true,” Gachagua said.

(“Now I’ve heard this man saying we have no brains. It’s true, the kind of brains he is looking for, we don’t have. That’s true.”)

He recalled moments when Ruto allegedly called him before meetings to help craft false narratives for the public.

“Hii ya uongo. Unajua alikuwa ananiita tukienda mkutano wee Riggy G kuja, wacha tupange maneno, vile tutaenda kuambia watu. Anapanga uongoo, tunaskiza anasema hiyo uongo bado tosha ongeza. Sasa hiyo akili mimi sina. Hii anasema sisi ni wapumbavu kwa sababu hii maneno ya kuua watoto Gen Z hatuwezani naye.”

(“This is about lies. You know he used to call me before meetings saying, ‘Riggy G come, let’s plan what we will tell people.’ He would plan lies, and as we listened, he would say the lie is not enough, add more. That kind of brain I don’t have. He says we are fools because we cannot agree with him on the issue of killing Gen Z youth.”)

“I Cannot Help You Cheat or Steal”
The former DP said he had rejected such schemes, stressing that as a Christian, he could not help the President cheat or plunder public resources.

“Anasema hii mtu nilikuwa na yeye hakunisaidia. Hangeweza kunisaidia, he had no capacity to help me, it is true. I have no capacity to help you to cheat the people of Kenya, because I’m a Christian. Mimi sina capacity ya kukusaidia kupora mali ya Kenya.”

(“He says this man I was with never helped him. He could never have helped me, because I had no capacity to help him, and it is true. I have no capacity to help you cheat Kenyans, because I’m a Christian. I have no capacity to help you steal the wealth of Kenya.”)

Allegations Against Deputy President Kindiki

Gachagua went further, accusing Ruto of using the Interior Ministry to commit abductions and killings of Gen Z protesters. He directly named Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, claiming his promotion was tied to his involvement in those acts.

“Na ndio unaona hii mambo ya kuua Gen Z ulikuwa na mtu hapo CS Interior. Akakusaidia abductions na killings ndio ukamwinua akuje akusaidie wizi,” Gachagua said.

(“And that’s why you see this matter of killing Gen Z youth, you had someone at the Interior Ministry. He helped you with abductions and killings, and that’s why you promoted him so he can now help you steal.”)

“Sasa kazi yenu ni pesa ya SHA mnagawanya.” (“Now your work is just dividing money from SHA.”)

Claims of Stashed Cash
The former DP also alleged that billions of shillings were being hidden at State House while smaller amounts were distributed selectively through close allies.

“Ile mingi inawekwa container pale State House. Hii ingine unapatia mtu wa soprano na ndege anazunguka akihonga watu. Sasa kama hiyo ndio kazi ulitaka nikusaidie I’m not available.”

(“The bigger share is kept in containers at State House. The rest you give to someone with a soprano voice who flies around in a plane, dishing out handouts. If that’s the work you wanted me to help you with, I’m not available.”)
