President William Ruto condemned tribal politics and hate-driven profiling following the brutal murder of gospel artist Rachel Wandeto, warning that those fueling division will face justice.
Speaking on Thursday at Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa to kick off his development tour of the Coast, Ruto directly linked Wandeto’s killing to a toxic wave of intolerance and ethnic hostility sweeping the nation. He cautioned that leaders driving these fractures are actively tearing apart Kenya’s national unity.
“The life of Rachel Wandeto will not go unanswered. You who call others traitors, mnaita wengine wasaliti mpaka mama Rachel Wandeto ameuawa kwa sababu ya chuki yenu,” the president said.
Ruto claimed that unnamed political figures are profiling citizens and weaponizing the label of “traitor” against anyone with differing political stances. Insisting that the country will not slide backward into ethnic chaos, the head of state vowed to block any attempts to blackmail or divide Kenyans.
“We will not allow anybody to divide our nation using ethnicity and hate. One day you will answer for the tribalism and hate you are spreading in Kenya,” he said.
Wandeto, a gospel musician from Mwiki in Kasarani, previously went viral after drawing a tattoo of Ruto’s face on her chest alongside the phrase “Two Terms” and the President’s name on her body in a highly publicized display of political loyalty.
This intense political stance reportedly strained her relationships at home, leading to her eviction from the family residence following sharp political disagreements. Her brutal death has now triggered massive outrage across social media platforms, reigniting a fierce national debate regarding political hostility and intolerance.

Taking an indirect shot at his former deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Ruto accused his political rivals of weaponizing ethnicity and fear to intimidate citizens who hold contrary opinions.
“I want to say, without fear of any contradiction, while I am here at the Coast, for those of you who are visionless, the people who have no vision for our nation, the people who have no plan for our nation, you will not divide our nation using ethnicity and hate. Kenya hii hatuwezi kubali, hatutaruhusu mtuuzie ukabila, uoga na blackmail,” the President said.
He issued a stern warning against targeting individuals over their political alignments. “We will not allow anybody to blackmail our nation using ethnicity. You will not profile citizens as traitors because they do not believe in your tribal bigotry.”
Ruto stated that Kenya’s future hangs entirely on unity and peaceful coexistence, declaring that the country cannot afford a backward slide into toxic fractures.
“We are going to stand together as a nation. Our nation will not go backward. Our nation will move forward with unity and a common destiny,” he said.
