Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has met with Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate and running mate to Peter Obi.
Saraki disclosed the meeting in a post on X on Tuesday, explaining that he paid a condolence visit to the Baba-Ahmed family following the death of Alhaji Mouftah Baba-Ahmed.
He wrote: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Today, I visited Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, to commiserate with him and his entire family over the passing of his brother, Alhaji Mouftah Baba-Ahmed. Alhaji Mouftah lived a noble life and will be remembered as a man of integrity and character. I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, grants him Aljannah Firdaus, and strengthens the Baba-Ahmed family with peace and patience during this difficult time.”
Datti Baba-Ahmed ran alongside Peter Obi on the Labour Party (LP) platform in the 2023 presidential election. The ticket secured over six million votes nationwide, finishing third behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Following the election, Obi has aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to build a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, even as he maintains his Labour Party membership. Baba-Ahmed, meanwhile, remains a figure in the LP.
