GHANA: Police commence investigation into murder of Immigration Officer at Gbintiri checkpoint

Police Investigation The North East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into an armed attack on two personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service at Gbintiri near Nalerigu in the North East Region.

According to police reports, unknown gunmen attacked the two Immigration officers while they were on duty at the Gbintiri inland checkpoint.

Both officers sustained gunshot wounds. Sadly, one of them died from his injuries, while the other was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The armed men reportedly made away with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers. However, the police were able to retrieve a service rifle that had been in use at the checkpoint.

The Command has assured the public that a manhunt is underway to apprehend the perpetrators of what it described as a heinous crime, so they can face the full rigours of the law.

The Police also appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist with the investigation. This was contained in a press statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabiik Anmain of the Police Public Affairs Unit, North East Region.
