The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has rejected claims that its personnel intentionally respond to fire emergencies without water in their tenders.
To illustrate the capabilities and constraints of its equipment, the Service organised a practical demonstration for the media in the Northern Region, where firefighters transferred water from one of their largest fire tenders to another.
The demonstration revealed that it took 5 minutes and 24 seconds to fully empty a 2,000-gallon tank, the largest tender currently operating in the region.
After the demonstration, the Public Relations Officer of the GNFS in the Northern Region, Assistant Divisional Officer II (ADOII) Hudu Baba, denied the allegations, stressing that no fire tender departs the station without water.
“Whenever water is flowing through the pipes, we ensure that the tanks are filled for emergency situations. How much more for a vehicle that is fully operational and prepared for duty? It has never been the case that we respond to fire emergencies without water,” he asserted.
ADOII Baba clarified that the swift reduction of water during firefighting efforts often creates the misconception that tenders arrive without water, but this is a result of the high-pressure discharge rate necessary to tackle severe fires.
He further reassured the public of the Service’s ongoing dedication to effective fire response and urged increased collaboration with firefighters during emergencies.
