Trump is coming: US Government Threatens to Take Action Amid Rising Christian Persecution in Nigeria

It is no news that for years, Christians in Northern Nigeria have been terrorized by jihadist groups ; Boko Haram, ISWAP (Islamic State–West Africa Province), and radicalized Fulani militants, leaving thousands dead and millions displaced.

These constant attacks have sparked outrage on social media multiple times, with citizens repeatedly appealing to the government and the international community for urgent intervention.

One of them being, Rev Ezekiel Dachomo of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Plateau State, who has been sounding the alarm for months. He’s watched communities wiped out and called the attacks “a slow genocide against Christians.” His viral plea for global intervention hit hard. Part frustration, part faith. Despite threats, he refuses to stay silent.

Apparently, these cries for help have caught the attention of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who, in a social media post on November 1st, 2025. described Nigeria as “a disgraced country.” He went on to threaten the suspension of all U.S. aid and assistance, vowing to “go in guns-a-blazing” to completely wipe out the terrorists.

Beyond the online reactions, it is important to note that Trump’s statement comes amid renewed violence across Just in late October, over 17 Christians were reportedly killed in coordinated attacks along the Plateau–Kaduna border. Meanwhile, aid groups warn that more than 2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) remain in dire conditions across northern and central Nigeria, many with limited access to food, healthcare, and shelter.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar swiftly rejected Trump’s claims, insisting that “State backed religious persecution is impossible under Nigeria’s constitution.” He also said that “the Nigerian government remains committed to fighting terrorism in all its form and welcomes partnership with the United States, so long as the country’s sovereignty is respected”.

This statement was further reinforced by the President of Nigeria, who affirmed in his speech that the nation would indeed defeat terrorism. Meanwhile Nigerians wait with keen anticipation to see if President Trump make good on his words in collaboration with the Nigerian government.
