KENYA: Kenya School of Government Cancels Certificates, Warns Employers Against Fake Credentials

The Kenya School of Government (KSG) has invalidated a series of certificates it says were never issued by the institution, warning employers and the public to be on the lookout for fake credentials.

KSG declared in a public notice on Tuesday that Certificates of Achievement bearing serial numbers MA 0251 to MA 1000 are invalid and shall not be recognized or utilized for any official purpose.

According to the institution, the flagged certificates did not originate from KSG and were never used to award any of its academic or professional qualifications.

“Accordingly, these certificates are invalid and cannot be presented or recognised as evidence of any qualification issued by the school,” the notice stated.

The institution called upon employers, education regulators, public agencies, and the general public to reject any document within the affected serial range, stating that such certificates do not represent genuine KSG training or study records.

However, the school has not revealed how it discovered the forged certificates, nor whether anyone has so far used them in gaining employment or advancing their academic credentials. Also not made clear was the extent of the problem or whether an investigation was underway into who was responsible for the forgery.

The KSG is a state institution mandated to train, develop, and enhance the capacity of public servants across national and county governments under the Kenya School of Government Act, 2012. Its core mission is to strengthen leadership, management, and governance in the public sector through training, research, consultancy, and policy advisory services.

The institution offers a broad range of short courses, executive programmes, and diploma-level training designed to equip government officers with skills in public administration, strategic planning, financial management, policy formulation, and ethics.

Certification is a critical part of KSG’s operations. Participants who complete courses such as the Senior Management Course (SMC) and the Strategic Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) get recognized across the Public Service through the award of Certificates. These qualifications often determine promotion, reposting, or higher responsibility within Government departments.

It also collaborates with universities and international institutions in the delivery of joint programmes and advanced certifications targeted at enhancing the professional competencies of the civil service.

Through continuous learning and leadership development, the school has established itself as a cornerstone in public sector excellence in ensuring that Kenya’s workforce is skilled, ethical, and service-driven.

By alerting the public to the fake documents, KSG seeks to safeguard the credibility of its programmes and ensure that only genuine graduates benefit from the institution’s respected qualifications.
