Tinubu orders full security deployment to rescue Kebbi schoolgirls

The Federal Government has placed Nigeria’s entire security architecture on its highest alert level following a series of recent attacks that have shaken communities in Kebbi, Kwara and other parts of the country.

At a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the deployment of full security machinery to pursue and eliminate terrorists, bandits and criminal networks nationwide.

Idris conveyed the President’s sympathies to families affected by the killing of a senior Army General, the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on a church in Kwara State, describing them as painful reminders of the threats confronting the nation.

“President Tinubu has put our nation’s security apparatuses on the highest alert ever. Our security forces have also been mandated to swiftly rescue the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls and reunite them with their families,” Idris said.

He disclosed that the President has postponed his international engagements, including a scheduled appearance at the G20 meeting in South Africa, to focus entirely on domestic security concerns.

According to the Minister, the President has also ordered the military and police to deploy additional personnel to Eruku and across Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State to ensure rapid response and robust protection for residents.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima is in Birnin Kebbi on the President’s instruction, meeting with state officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers and families of the abducted schoolgirls.

Idris stressed that the rescue of the schoolgirls remains an urgent national priority, adding that security agencies have been directed to “actively pursue, neutralise and dismantle terrorists and criminal networks across the country.”

“The Federal Government categorically refutes any sectarian interpretation. Terrorism and banditry have affected Nigerians of all faiths and backgrounds. Our common enemies are criminals seeking to destabilise our country,” he said.
