KENYA: Mombasa: County inspectorate officer dies in accident days after recruitment

Source: Facebook Modir Abdalla Bwanamzee died on Saturday, January 17, after being involved in a road accident while on duty.

“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I convey my heartfelt condolences following the tragic passing of Modir Abdalla Bwanamzee, who lost his life as a result of an unfortunate traffic accident while on duty at the Kengeleni intersection,” Governor Abdulswamad Nassir mourned. Modir’s death came just days after he was recruited into the county inspectorate service.

Until his death, he was serving in the Traffic Division.

Prior to his recruitment, Modir served as a volunteer with the Storm Water Response Team at the coast.

Abdulswamad eulogised Modir as a dedicated practitioner and volunteer who undertook his duties with passion for the service of Mombasa residents.

“Even before his formal recruitment, he had distinguished himself as a selfless and committed volunteer with the Storm Water Response Team, demonstrating an unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of the people of Mombasa,” the county boss. The governor appreciated that Modir’s path from volunteer work to serving on the frontlines embodied a character rooted in duty, bravery, and a deep commitment to public service.

He laid down his life in faithful service to the people, a sacrifice that will always be remembered, the governor added.

Abdulswamad addressed a condolence message to the family and friends of the deceased, pledging support in the difficult moment.

“On behalf of the County Government of Mombasa and the people we serve, I extend my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues. We stand with you during this moment of profound grief and loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy of service continue to inspire us all. Innalilahi Wainna Illayhi Rajiun,” he said. In other news, the Mombasa governor recently entrusted Maurice Ogeta, former aide of the late Raila Odinga, with a role in his office.

The governor appointed Ogeta to a senior role in the Mombasa County government.

He explained that Ogeta’s profile and experience in the field were well-proven, having previously served the late Raila.

Abdulswamad stated that in his new role, Ogeta will serve as Advisor on Security Affairs in the County Government of Mombasa, noting that the decision was informed by the latter’s extensive experience and institutional knowledge at local, regional, and global levels, including his service to Raila.

The county boss added that the appointment complied with the law and the requirements of the Mombasa County Public Service Board.
