LAGOS – MTN Nigeria says it recorded 9,218 fibre cuts in 2025, leading to widespread network disruptions across the country.
The telecommunications company said the incidents also included 211 sites affected by theft and vandalism as of November 30, 2025, disrupting essential services relied on by customers daily.
According to MTN, a total of 1,624,263 customer complaints were recorded and resolved across all service channels during the period.

Karl Toriola, Chief Executive Officer Of MTN Nigeria, in a LinkedIn post on Friday, acknowledged the company’s responsibility for network performance and its response to issues affecting customer experience.
“There is progress to be proud of. And we clearly still have work to do,” the CEO said.
“We are not where we want to be yet, but our commitment to putting the customer at the centre of everything we do remains constant.”
Toriola added that as MTN marks its 25th anniversary in 2026, the company remains committed to listening to customers, responding swiftly, and driving consistent improvements in service delivery.
In February 2025, the federal ministry of works and the federal ministry of communications, innovation, and digital economy established a joint standing committee on the protection of fibre optic cables in Nigeria.
